Foodbank Australia - foodbank.org.au
Foodbank is Australia’s largest not-for-profit food relief organisation, helping vulnerable Aussies access food and groceries, no matter what the crisis. COVID-19, and the resulting mass unemployment being experienced across the country, is placing huge strain on our network. In ‘normal’ circumstances, Foodbank provides relief for more than 815,000 Australians each month, through 2,400 charities. Those numbers are rapidly increasing and Foodbank is in urgent need of additional funds to purchase food and groceries to support Australians affected by COVID-19.
Food insecurity is a big problem, requiring a big coordinated response, and we rely on countless partners to do what we do. Our national and state-based teams work with the entire food and grocery industry including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source food and capture donations. We also collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers and transporters to produce key staple foods that don’t come in sufficient quantities via rescue channels. In 2019 we sourced the equivalent of 75 million meals for our 2,400 charity partners. Without this food, millions of vulnerable Aussies would go hungry.
